As a doula and nutritional therapist I have seen it all too often: there is this unspoken (and sometimes spoken) expectation for women to “bounce back” after pregnancy and labor and go back to being “themselves.” In the media we are fed stories about how quickly this actress or singer lost her baby weight or how easily the woman in the article is juggling being a mom with everything else she did before.

Maternal Health
There was an article that caught my eye in the October/November edition of Fit Pregnancy called “Doctors Debate Thyroid Testing”. The author pointed out that while newly pregnant women often go through a lot of screening, that few of them ever got tested for thyroid issues.
Holiday Season Stress?
Unfortunately, for many of us, stress is an uninvited guest during the holidays. It can be hard to balance the the normal, day-to-day duties on top of planning social engagements, looking for the perfect gifts, baking, menu planning, and hosting family from out of town. I think we can all agree that the financial aspect of our holiday causes stress as well.
